PREFER's roots are in the center of the united Europe in a town called Geleen in the neighborhood of Maastricht in the Netherlands. Through its activities in the field of audio equipment PREFER has become a standard idea in most countries of Europe and far beyond.

PREFER produces a large range of: amplifiers, mixers, Limiters, boosters, microphones etc.

Besides these PREFER also supplies every high- valued range of audio-video cables.

The development of each PREFER product finds its origin in market changes, which arise from the requirements of the user. On this basis our development department starts designing. Here the pursuit of high-valued quality, originality, renewal and functional application already ranks first. After the development stage the design find its way to the production department and also here much attention is paid to quality and reliability at production stage at the choice of the components. During the production stage a constant quality control takes place. After that each PREFER product also passes an extensive final check

From our centrally situated warehouses each PREFER product finds its way to a vast dealer system, where expert advisors take their time to render advice and assistance. 1964:

UMMELS BV is a Dutch company and was founded by Mr. J.A.M. Ummels over 30 years ago. The company was engaged in the distribution, marketing and manufacturing of electronic equipment for audio products and special electronic devices for yachting. Within a few years the company entered the consumer market with an increasing line of audio products, mostly imported at that time.

1972:

UMMELS B.V.B.A. - BELGIUM was founded. Within an increasing market it was necessary to distribute the products into a wider market.

1974:

As the audio market was becoming an important part of the activities of UMMELS B.V., Mr. J.A.M. Ummels decided to establish a brand name for the manufactured audio-video products: ,,PREFER".

1974:

UMMELS GMBH - Germany. As a result of the success of the PREFER audio products a German sales and distribution network was necessary.

1982:

Registration of the brand name: ,,UPC". The UPC division is responsible for the sales and the distribution of parts and components.

1982:

UPC-Tokyo: Ummels Product Corporation. A joint venture was founded with Mr. Masa Takahashi to handle and consolidate that part of the production of the PREFER products manufactured in Japan.

1987:

PREFER introduced the first SMD transformer less Phantom-powered back-electrets condenser-microphone in the world.

1991:

introduction of PREFER Professional 100 Volt amplifiers and accessories for public address. A new line of products for sound contractors.

2001: Ummels  B.V. decided to do the distribution in the netherlands via a distributor. Ummels B.V.B.A Belgium Aarschot becomes headoffice.

2009: Ummels B.V.B.A decided to go into the LED market .

Epilogue

Today Ummels B.V.B.A is an international Operating Company, which exports its manufactured products to all European and Scandinavian countries as well as overseas.
